Pacquiao Offered $65 Million to Fight Alvarez

According to Ilocos Sur Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson, Manny Pacquiao has been offered $65 million by billionaire Carlos Slim to fight a Mexican boxer next year, possibly Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

The news came after reports about Floyd Mayweather Jr. refusing an offer by a Singapore business group to fight Manny Pacquiao surfaced recently. The offer was said be at $65 million also.

Singson, a close friend of Pacquiao, said that Slim wanted Manny to fight in Mexico where many of his fellow countrymen have been hoping to see the eight-division champion fight in their soil. Manny has fought, and defeated, standout Mexican and Mexican-American fighters in the course of his record-setting. These include Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, David Diaz, Oscar De La Hoya, and Antonio Margarito.

Pacquiao is set to face Juan Manual Marquez, another Mexican, in Nov. 12, 2011.
